The timeline, while still vague, does hint at the possibility of AMD actually bringing up launch date of its Ryzen 3000 series CPUs up. Quite possibly just in time for its annual keynote at Computex this year. That gives AMD enough time to prep Navi’s launch for either Gamescom in August or Siggraph in September. Like the Radeon VII graphics card and its second-generation Vega GPU, AMD’s Navi GPU for its next Radeon graphics card will be built using a 7nm die lithography. Unsurprisngly, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, has said in the past that the new GPU will challenge NVIDIA’s current-generation Turing GPU.
While specifics about the GPU are still shrouded in an air of secrecy, it’s highly likely that Navi will still be using the HBM2 standard. It’s also unknown if Navi will be the GPU generation where AMD jumps on the bandwagon and provides it with some form or ability to perform real-time ray-tracing. (Source: Hot Hardware, The Inquirer)
