According to its official press release, Corsair decision to acquire the company seems to be a power play to expand its reach into the pre-built, high-end gaming PC market. It’s a market that the brand has been trying to penetrate for some time; the Corsair One is proof of that point. At this point in time, Corsair says that Origin PC will remain a separate brand from its parent company, and will still have handle prior warranties, product support and any customer purchases made with it before the acquisition. At least, until Corsair comes knocking on its door for some new project.
Corsair’s decision to purchase Origin PC isn’t all that surprising. The company is already renown for its gaming mice, headsets, and keyboards. The Corsair One notwithstanding, having a company that made its bones with custom-designed, high-end gaming PCs seems like a sensible move. To be fair, Origin PC isn’t the first company that Corsair has acquired. Back in June last year, the PC peripheral company bought out Elgato, a company that is equally famous for its video streaming accessories. The acquisition gave Corsair access to the company’s entire array of internal and external video capture cards, Stream Deck, Cam Link, along with a green screen. (Source: Corsair)
