Last December news broke that Scott Derrickson has been brought back in to direct Doctor Strange 2, but that’s pretty much all the updates we received about the film until now. During the epic Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the sequel is titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and that Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will be an important supporting character in it. On top of that, we’ve also found out (via Cinema Blend) that the film will be Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first horror outing.
While I wasn’t a fan of the first Doctor Strange film, the idea of a horror-esque MCU film piques my interest simply because I’m curious to see how it plays out. After all, prior to making a splash in the MCU, Scott Derrickson was known for horror films like Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us From Evil and Sinister. On top of that, Kevin Feige added that the film will be connected directly to another MCU property: The Disney+ series WandaVision. The events that take place in the series, which is set to drop on the streaming service sometime in between March and May of 2021, will tie into Doctor Strange 2. Doctor Strange 2 is set to hit the big screens 6 May 2021.
