Potentially confusing name aside, Google TV works the way the Google Assistant works on the phone. Ask it to find your favourite shows, and it brings it up for you regardless of which subscription service it belongs to. If you have smart home devices like a security camera, you can control them from here too. Of course, Google TV is not to be confused with Android TV, the actual operating system for smart TVs. To make matters even more confusing, Google also announced that it will be replacing the Google Play Movies & TV app on mobile devices to Google TV as well. For now, it looks like it will take awhile before we can make use of this. It will first be available on the new Chromecast with Google TV. The app mentioned earlier will also be updated to the new name starting with Android devices. But naturally, this will happen in the US first, with other countries being later in the queue. And finally, the new interface will be made available on TVs by Android TV partners like Sony starting in 2021. (Source: Google)
