If the term “liquid-filled lens” seems foreign to you, this is because it is a unique feature that has only been offered by Lomography. Basically, coloured liquid (usually dyes) are filled into the specialised Sutton lens to function as a filter for photos. Lomography encourages users to try out the new HydroChrome with different translucent liquids to make the best of their experience.
Typical of most toy cameras, the new Lomography camera capture images on film – specifically, standard 35mm ones. By using the same approach as the brand’s Belair X models, photos are outputted in a panoramic format that exposes 104mm x 35mm in each frame.
As for aperture, users are given the option to use the lens’ built-in f/11 as well as four interchangeable aperture plates at f/16, f/22, f/32 and f/168 pinhole. Other than that, the HydroChrome comes with two shutter speed options: 1/100 or Bulb.
The HydroChrome Sutton’s Panoramic Belair Camera is now available for pre-order via the Lomography online store at a retail price of US$79 (~RM328). The company noted that the new toy camera is expected to ship around late November this year. (Source: Lomography [Official website] via Engadget)
