The drive-in cinema will be a collaboration between the company and MD Events Asia, with the support by MaTiC. 2Spicy Entertainment is also known for its novelty restaurant services such as Dinner in The Sky and ‘Plane in The City’, both based in KL. Based on a report by Malay Mail, M-Junction will feature an outdoor LED screen measuring at nine by four 4 metres, and would only allow for 50 vehicles per screening. The frontmost row is reserved for sedan-type cars, while the last two rows are reserved for larger vehicles such as MPVs and SUVs so as to not obstruct the view of the screen.
Audio of the screening will be outputted from a vehicle’s own sound system via Bluetooth or Auxiliary port connection, which is provided by the cinema. As for cars that lack either of these, M-Junction will provide the viewers with an external Bluetooth speaker for their convenience. The drive-in cinema will hold two screenings in the evening per day, with the first session held at 7:30pm and the second at 9:00pm onwards. “As for the list of movies, we have identified a few movies but nothing is confirmed yet,” said MD Events Asia director Jack Gill. “There are certain types of movies that we identified that people will actually go and watch again and again.” The films he listed include Titanic, Jangan Pandang Belakang, and Crazy Rich Asians. Gill added M-Junction will be adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN) and will also conduct disinfection processes after each screening. In the event of an emergency, the cinema has prepared an emergency exit for viewers. He also admitted that bad weather could pose as a challenge for the establishment, and could stop screenings if there is a thunderstorm. A drive-in cinema is actually a good approach for those wanting to scratch that movie-going itch, especially with the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is pretty safe, since most of the time viewers are enjoying the experience in the comfort of their own vehicles – separated and away from other patrons. However, there’s only so much that M-Junction is capable of and being the only drive-in cinema in Malaysia, you can expect it to be fully booked even weeks after launch. Entry prices could also be a factor to consider as well, and speaking of which… Pricing for the screenings have not been revealed at this time, but it is mentioned that a special dining package will also be available.
