Over the weekend, The Information reported that Netflix is looking to hire a video game executive for its gaming efforts. The report also says it is looking to do something similar to Apple Arcade. That is, to offer a bundle of games ad-free. This is corroborated by Reuters. Axios would later report that it will be on a smaller scale than Apple’s service, launching possibly in 2022.

It’s not like the company has not tried to do so before. If you remember, Netflix announced a Stranger Things game based on the third season of the show. There was also supposed to be a mobile game, but we’ve heard nothing of it since. There have been many video game subscription services that play to the “Netflix for games” meme. Now, maybe the company itself will play into the meme, though it remains to be seen if it will just be another one in the group. Or if it will actually take off in the first place.
