Since the enforcement of its policy, PLUS says that it has seen significantly less drivers with an insufficient balance on their Touch n’ Go cards travelling between Seremban and Ipoh South. Statistically, 850000 vehicles pass through the central Toll Plaza exits on average and approximately 5% of those vehicles are the cause of congestions. To put that number into perspective, that’s 42500 vehicles contributing to traffic congestions, all because their Touch n’ Go cards do not have enough credit. By the end of September, that number had reportedly been reduced to nearly half at 22000 cars, or 48.2% mentioned earlier. Because of its success, PLUS also says that it plans on rolling out the policy nationwide at all Southern and Northern Toll Plaza exit lanes, but did not specify a timeline.
This isn’t the first time PLUS has enforced its “No Reload at Touch n’ Go” policy. The highway concessionary has, at times, shut down its reload lanes during the festive seasons. In 2018, it closed the reload lanes during Christmas and again in June 2019.
