SamMobile cites a post on Naver that claims that Samsung is looking to launch a third foldable device that is distinct from the existing Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip line. The upcoming foldable tablet will be unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series of devices. And this is said to be happening within the first two months of 2023. The Naver post itself cites “domestic hinge suppliers” as its source.
The report notes that the upcoming tablet may be referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Z Tab. While it’s not confirmed by any means, it makes sense as it would be leaning in on the naming convention for the Fold and Flip devices. On one hand, it makes sense for Samsung to be the one to announce a foldable tablet. After all, it was the first brand to actually put out a foldable phone that consumers can buy, with another device in a smaller form factor following soon after. It even has teased the idea of tri-folding and rollable devices.
But on the other hand, the idea of a foldable tablet is quite the overkill. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series of devices, when unfolded, can already serve as a tablet, even if it is on the smaller side of things. While an unfolded tablet will still serve its original purpose, a folded tablet will still either serve as a small tablet or an unnecessarily large phone. (Source: Naver via SamMobile)
