According to VG247, the event organisers originally prepared and provided a list of precautions to attendees – including temperature checks at entrances and advising that masks are to be worn at all times. However, this was no longer the case as fear of the epidemic has been recently declared as a global emergency by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Following the Taipei Game Show’s postponement, an event spokesperson released a statement apologising for the decision. “We are deeply sorry to announce the different decision from our committee,” they said. “2020 Taipei Game Show was originally scheduled to take place on Feb 6 – Feb 9. However, due to the serious outbreak of Wuhan coronavirus, we have decided to postpone the event to this summer.”
The spokesperson added that the event venue in summer will still be held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center in Hall 1. The organisers will announce refund or regulations to all participants who are deciding their withdrawal from the event entirely. They also said that its new date and schedule will also be announced “in the upcoming days”. The annual Taipei Games Show event had previously hosted over 600 exhibitors and attracted more than 320,000 visitors. Among the exhibitors attending this year includes Malaysia’s own representatives from MDEC, and local studios such as Metronomik (No Straight Roads) and Kaigan Games (Simulacra).
